The Fisheries Secretariat
The Fisheries Secretariat is an independent non-profit organisation dedicated to the protection and restoration of marine ecosystem services, with a focus on fisheries.
The goal is well managed seas with rich biodiversity and thriving fish stocks to secure healthy and local seafood to consumers and a sustainable fishing sector.
The aim is to focus on national government and their implementation of policies that ensures sustainable fishing. FishSec does that through analysis, research, communication and dialogue with policymakers, corporates, NGOs and different stakeholders, building on science and practical experience.
Based in Stockholm, Sweden, FishSec was established in 2003 by the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation, WWF Sweden and the Swedish Anglers’ Association.
**FishSec collaborate with partners for sustainable fisheries**
We collaborate and coordinate with a wide range of organisations and are members of several networks and formal bodies working on fish stocks in the Baltic Sea region and at EU level.
Some of our different partners;\
BalticSea2020, EU Advisory Council, Waterloo Foundation, Polish Ecological Club, Coalition Clean Baltic, Svenska Institutet, Our Fish.
**Towards sustainable fisheries via advocacy**
We advocate for fisheries within the limits of the frame of a healthy marine ecosystem, preserving marine resources as well as their habitats. We are mainly active in the EU and regional policy development in the Baltic Sea, supporting other civil society organisations to advocate in their countries.\
